Roger Hargreaves wrote the Mr. Men range of books in 1971 after creating Mr. Tickle for his son, Adam. Mr. Tickle, Mr. Strong and friends were so popular, that the Little Miss range of books followed in 1981. There are 28 Mr. Men stories and 13 Little Miss stories. Each character has their own feature story and follows their adventures, which are linked to their names. For instance, Mr. Mischief plays lots of practical jokes on his friends, such as giving Mr. Greedy a cake made of toothpaste and switching Wizard's wand for a stick. The tales are light-hearted and spellbinding for young children, and in recent years, the Mr. Men and Little Miss series animated and shown on Cartoon Network and now Channel Five's Milkshake!
