Last year we reported on the success of possibly the worldâs largest fancy dress music festival at the Isle of Wightâs ever popular âBestivalâ. The theme then was âA Space Oddityâ, prompting many a Martian, runaway robot and moonwalker to emerge from the woodwork for a weekend of fancy dress musical mayhem.
Now, the fancy dress theme for this yearâs event has been announced, and it is (drumroll)⦠âFantasyâ!
Entering its seventh year since being set up as a less commercial alternative to the summerâs major music festivals, Bestival has rapidly grown from humble beginnings and now draws in crowds of over 40,000.
The fancy dress theme is an integral part of the event. In a statement on the official Bestival website (www.bestival.net), the organisers announce a kind of call-to-arms: âRoll up, roll up tribe of the Bestivalites- descend from your starships, rise out of the seabed, fall from the stars, unleash the Magick and release your imagination into our 2010 world of FANTASY. Open the gates and welcome in Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz, The Lord of the Rings, hobbits, trolls, elves, fairies, the Odyssey, King Arthur, Merlinâ¦â And the list goes on.
So whether you fancy yourself as Luke Skywalker, Peter Pan, a magical demon or a brain-hungry zombie, if live music and dressing up is the kind of thing that floats your boat, then grab yourself a ticket and get working on that fancy dress costume!
