Music festival loving fancy dress aficionados have extra reasons to smile at the end of July as the organisers of the Lake Districtâs Kendall Calling announce that the Saturday of the three day event will have a fancy dress theme.
Situated in Cumbriaâs Lowther Deer Park near Penrith, Kendall Calling is one of the UKâs newest and most innovative independent music festivals. The eclectic line up includes the folky pop riffing of The Coral and Badly Drawn Boy, the edgy drum nâ bass of High Contrast and the Ukulele driven ska of Clapham punkers, The King Blues.
In celebration of Kendal Callingâs fifth year, the fancy dress theme will be loosely based around a birthday party. The theme is however entirely open to interpretation, and the organisers are keen for people to unleash their creative insanity â âthink kidsâ birthday mixed with a crazy Mad Hatters Tea Party, anything goes at our birthday bash.â
If youâre lucky enough to snare yourself a ticket for the event, which takes place from 30th July â 1st August, here are a few ideas for your fancy dress costume.
Cartoon characters – From Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin to Elma Fudd and Daffy Duck, the world of cartoon characters offers a myriad of fancy dress possibilities.
Star Wars â Nothing in life quite compares to the sight of Darth Vader, C3PO and Chewbacca getting their boogie on with a load of Ewoks.
Monsters and aliens â When it comes to fancy dress costumes, the only limit is your imagination. Why not rock out in the sun as a little green man, Bigfoot or the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Elvis â Get a group of your mates together and all go to the festival dressed as The King. For total surrealness, each one of you could pick a different guise, ie young heartthrob Elvis, fat Elvis or Hawaiian Elvis.
