Barbie is a global name, with the first dolls hitting the shops in 1959. Barbara 'Barbie' Millicent Roberts is a favourite with girls and is often top of their Christmas wish lists. Her boyfriend Ken joined her in 1961 and was equally popular as girls worldwide engrossed themselves in Barbie's world. Barbie has a varied wardrobe and has been available in many guises - including Astronaut Barbie, Doctor Barbie and Ballerina Barbie. Her varied outfits are to show that women can do anything. Barbie has been joined by many friends and family since becoming a household toy including - siblings Kelly, Tutti, Todd, Stacie, Skipper, Krissy and recently Chelsea, Cousins - Francie and Jazzie. Barbie's world is every girl's fantasy - including princesses, mermaids, gymkhanas, weddings and pop groups. Barbie features in Toy Story 3, a string of her own films including 'Barbie and the Rockers: Out Of This World', and was rocketed into the music world by Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group Aqua with their rather repetitive hit 'Barbie Girl' in 1997. Barbie is as popular today as she has always been and looks set to stand the test of time further, providing hours of fun for future generation too.
